About Young Audiences/Arts for Learning:
Young Audiences/Arts for Learning, founded in Baltimore in 1950, is the country’s foremost arts-in-education non-profit organization. The Maryland chapter of young Audiences (YAMD) Provides over 4,000 arts education opportunities for students, artists, and educators throughout the state each year, our programs generate student motivation towards their school work by enlivening the standard curriculum as well as propelling the increasingly important process of breaking down divisive cultural barriers. The staff, interns, and teaching artists of YAMD work tirelessly to generate opportunities for students of all social and economic standing to imagine, create and realize their full potential through the arts. YAMD offers its interns a unique and valuable chance to learn the ins and outs of non-profits active in this
sector and to contribute to the continued success of the organization. Our 100 plus arts education programs -- from Footwork's assembly Keeping the Beat, to Amanda Pellerin's residency Handmade Tile and Mosaic Murals, to Gayle Danley's teacher workshop You Can Do This! -- do more than entertain. They bring classrooms to life, teach valuable skills, and build self-esteem!

Internship Opportunity passed on by Dr. Susan Isaacs of the Art History Department

Krug Iron Museum, Inc
415 W. Saratoga Street
Baltimore, MD 21201

Parent Company - G. Krug & Son is one of the oldest companies in Baltimore, and the oldest ironworks factory in the country.  Our ironworks have been in operation without interruption, at the same location, since 1810.  G. Krug & Son is dedicated to one purpose: to provide our customers with ironwork that is beautiful, durable and represents a value that will stand the test of time.

Mission Statement - To endorse the public’s celebration and interest in the United States’ oldest functioning ironworks factory, and the people, objects, and history that lies within its walls, as well as to provide an outlet for educating future metal artisans and museum staff.

Research Internship – This internship position will include the tasks of researching information about the parent company, G Krug & Son, the history of iron and Baltimore, and iron forging techniques, equipment, and products in order to help compile a general tutorial that can be used to educate future museum tour guides, and visitors.

Digitalization/Archival Internship – This internship position will include the tasks of digitalizing photographs of previous jobs and products the parent company has worked on, as well as taking new on-site photographs around the Baltimore area of present day comparisons as well as new job sites that the parent company has worked on.  These images will be used throughout the museum to complement exhibit pieces, but the main purpose is to create a digital archive/catalogue of these products for both the museum and company.

Both internship positions will focus on those tasks, however, help with grant writing and collections management may be potential tasks as well.

Our Friends at Young Audiences of Maryland thought this might be  of interest to any upcoming graduates...

Also, Young Audiences of Maryland has asked us to keep them in mind this upcoming Spring as they have two LARGE events that they will need volunteers for!

  • The 2012 TASTE The Arts Convention at the AVAM
  • The 2012 Young Audiences National Conference

These are two wonderful opportunities to add to your resume, I've had the pleasure of working with YA and guarantee you will not be disappointed in volunteering, even if it's just for one event. (TASTE is SO FUN, you should go just to experience the fabulous artists, musicians, and people that you might want to keep in mind for your future classroom)

For a sneak peak, check out their website:

We are in need of Art Education Students and NAEA Members to Volunteer at Towson Arts Collective during our upcoming exhibition.

This is a great opportunity for us! (Especially if you plan on selling your work) Going into the show, the commission rate is 60/40, 60% to artist and 40% to the gallery. If you sit the gallery, the rate goes down dramatically! For one sit, the commission rate becomes 80/20. And then for 2x, the commission rate becomes 90/10! Since TAC is not charging very much, we need to plan on having as many gallery volunteers as possible! This is also another resume builder! Employers love seeing volunteer work and gallery experience.

The show will be on exhibition from January 20, 2012- February 24, 2012. The gallery will be open on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 12-5pm.

Below are the dates we will need volunteers to sit the gallery.

Please note that the graduating seniors will be student teaching, therefore if you ARE NOT A GRADUATING SENIOR STUDENT TEACHING, please don't sign up for a saturday slot. Saturday will be the only times student teachers will be available to sit the gallery. We would really appreciate understanding, and would be very appreciative to those that are not student teaching and planning to exhibit work to volunteer to sit the gallery on Thursdays and Fridays.  I need to know if you can volunteer ASAP!

Please email me with the date/time you wish to sit the gallery. Feel free to sign up in pairs. Plan on volunteering for the 2.5 hr block or the entire 5 hr block.
